1930s Gibson TG-00 Sunburst

A stunning pre-war example from Gibson!

One of the iconic small bodied offerings from Gibsons catalog, the L-00 is revered for its unique and size-defying sound, and has been favoured by players and collectors alike. This particular example is the tenor neck version, a unique rarity and a style of instrument not commonly seen today. Functioning as a transition instrument between banjo and guitar, these tenor instruments fell out of favour by the 1960s. This example appears to date around the late 1930s, with the sunburst indicating somewhere around the 1938 mark. FON however appears to be more in-line with 1940-ish, making this example a tricky one to nail down!

Composed of a solid spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides. These came X-braced, which really adds to the complexity and depth of sound from this example. A V-shaped mahogany neck is present in addition to a rosewood fretboard. Headstock features the correct script logo from this period, as well as correct tuners. 

Cosmetic condition is excellent for its age, showing signs of wear in the form of dings, scratches, and finish checking all throughout the instrument. There is a crack of the treble side, lower bout of the instrument which appears to have been stabilised with glue at some point. Hardware is fully functional, and plays with a medium action. There is some minor room at the saddle, with movement in the truss rod. Includes a later '50s/60s chipboard case.
