Made by Kay for Oahu, this example is a 229K lap steel (square neck) dating to sometime around 1939. These featured a mahogany body construction built of a center-section and two wings. Finished in sunburst, this example retains most of its original features. Under the original pickup cover is the original single coil, as well as what look to be period correct Stackpoles pots and capacitors. The switch for decreasing the output has been removed, and there appears to be a newer Switchcraft jack installed. The aluminium surrounds that accompany the volume and tone control are not present. The remaining all appears to present as original to this example. Sounds excellent when plugged in and delivers that classic Hawaiian sound! We believe this example as previously owned by David Robak of Mazzy Star fame.
Cosmetic condition is okay for its age with noticeable checking and dings present throughout. The original holes have been re-drilled at some stage. Hardware and electronics are functional. Includes the original case.
