A stunning example from Gibsons golden period!

We're overwhelmingly excited to offer up this gorgeous 1965 Gibson Hummingbird for sale! No doubt one of the most visually iconic of Gibsons acoustic offerings, the Hummingbird has seen use by the likes of the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, John McLaughlin, too name just a small few. This example based off its features and serial number range place the year of manufacture at 1965. The notable distinction on this example however is the wider 1 11/16" nut width. In the later half of 1965, Gibson transitioned to a narrower nut width of 1 9/16", with the earlier wider nut becoming more sought after by collectors.

The sunburst on this example remains vivid, delivering plenty of red on the edges of the top. All original and without any repairs, this example also boasts its original tuning machines. The stencilling on the pickguard remains vivid, which further compounds the excellent cosmetic condition of this example.

The sound of this example is simply on another level. By no means the loudest dreadnought we've ever come across, it more than makes up for it with what can be described as a three dimensional openness to the sound. The low end is present and assertive, and the mid range and high end can really best be described as 'refined'. One of our favourite acoustics we've personally come across!

Cosmetic condition is good for its age, with no previous repairs present. Scratchings, dings, and checking are present without any overwhelming wear. A played yet well cared for example. Hardware is fully functional, and plays with a low-medium action. There is a hump from beyond the 15th fret with the 14th fret plinking out when attacked a little harder. Thanks to a level in this area, it's much improved from where it originally was. Includes the original hardcase.
