An introductory offering Brazilian guitar maker, Di Giorgio!
Since Romeo Di Giorgio immigrated to São Paulo, Brazil and opened his own guitar making factory in 1908, Di Giorgio have been making world-class classical guitars ever since and became icons of the Bossa Nova era of the 1960s and MPB (Brazilian Popular Music). Played by artists such as Baden Powell, João Gilberto, Rosinha de Valença, Gilberto Gil, Jorge Ben Jor, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and many more. Higher-end Serie Artistica Di Giorgio models from the 1960s and '70s can command prices well into five figures.
This model is a Signorina 16, which represented one of their smaller body, introductory options. The model first saw introduction during the 1960s, with this example being dated by its features and date stamp to 1975. Features a spruce top with laminated Brazilian rosewood back and sides.
This example has had a replaced set of tuners. The top shows noticeable lift with the bridge raising from the body, with the neck showing some sink into the body. The bridge appears to have been glued at some point and for the moment is stable. There is some separation between the fretboard and the neck, however it appears to be stable at this point in time.
Cosmetic condition is otherwise reasonable for its age with general wear present throughout. Hardware is fully functional, and plays with a medium-high action. No case included.
